Frequently asked questions

Including the ones where the answer is «no».

Your data

Do the documents I open leave my computer?

No. Detection and substitution happen on the device. The app works without a network, and you can check that by unplugging it: it keeps working. The only things that go over the internet are the licence check and the update check, and neither sends documents.

So what does the AI system I use actually see?

The text after substitution: placeholders like [NAME_1] stand in for the data. The mapping between placeholders and real values stays on your computer, encrypted, and is what puts the real data back when you paste the AI's answer here.

What if your server is breached?

They find licences, email addresses and billing details. They do not find documents, because documents never reach it — there is no feature to upload them.

Do you keep anything I process?

No. We never receive the text, so there is nothing to keep. Not even the file name: that says a lot before you even open it.

How it works in practice

Can I drag a file into the window?

Yes, or click the upload area and pick one. It takes TXT, DOCX, PDF, CSV lists and EML email messages. A PDF made only of images is read by obscurIA itself, on your own computer: no image ever leaves the device.

Does it catch everything sensitive?

No, and no tool can promise that. It catches with certainty what has a checksum — tax code, VAT number, IBAN, card numbers — and with good reliability names, addresses, contacts and the terms in the sector dictionaries. Before letting you copy, it re-reads the protected text and shows you what it found: the final check is you, and the app is built to make that fast, not to replace it.

If it gets something wrong, can I fix it?

Yes. Every detected item can be confirmed, corrected or ignored before you proceed. And if a term of yours isn't recognised — a client's company name, a case reference — you select it in the text and add it to your personal vocabulary: from then on it is always recognised.

What happens when I paste the AI's answer back?

Placeholders become the real data again. It's the step that makes the result usable: without it you'd have an answer full of [NAME_1] to fix by hand.

Licences and pricing

What are the free version's limits?

2 documents a week, up to 5 pages each, on 1 device. The protection features are the same: the limit is quantity, not quality.

Does one licence cover several computers?

Each licence covers one device, and the limit is actually enforced: when you activate the app on a computer, that workstation is registered. That's what the three- and five-device packs are for.

How do I move it to another computer?

Yourself, from your account area: open the licence, release the old workstation and activate the new one. No need to write to us and no need to buy anything again. You get four moves a year — enough for a new computer, a breakdown and a change of mind, but not enough to pass one licence around the office. If you run out for a real reason, write to us.

How do I get the licence after buying?

By email, as a code. You paste it into the app and it activates. If you bought several licences you receive all the codes, one per workstation.

Is renewal automatic?

You decide, and you can switch it off from your private area whenever you like. Switching it off does not disable the licence: it stays active until the expiry you have already paid for.

Requirements and installation

Which systems does it run on?

Windows 10 and 11 64-bit, macOS 11 and later on Apple Silicon, Linux 64-bit. It does not run on Intel Macs: the package is built for Apple Silicon and will not open on those machines. We would rather tell you here than have you find out after downloading ninety megabytes.

Does Windows warn me about an unknown publisher?

It shouldn't: the installer is signed with a certificate issued to Maddonni Raimondo. If you do see a warning, check the SHA-256 fingerprint of the file you downloaded against the one published on the download page.

Do I need a server or a special setup?

No. It's a program you install on a computer, and it works. There is an n8n connector for automated workflows, but that's an extra choice, not a requirement.

Try it on your own documents.
